Meet Candidate for Sheriff Janet Hays

I have worked with community leaders and legislators for years to solve this problem, but I believe that more needs to change. I know that it is the people of New Orleans that give so much to make their communities great, not politicians. I have also taken the Green New Deal Pledge. New Orleans deserves a new sheriff that isn’t beholden to political parties or agendas—someone who thinks independently and is ready to fight for change. I am that candidate.

There is a crisis of safety in New Orleans and our sheriff’s office needs reform. Reform starts with a clear vision and is followed through with a lot of honest work. I understand just how to plow through policy barriers and effect the type of changes that will change our current system of transient crisis care. I understand the work needed to reform our shelters, jails, and group homes, and I am ready to take on the challenge.
